10 Things I would like to See in Wordpress

Well Wordpress remains my favourite publishing medium today. But customizing the code of wordpress to suite my needs is an near impossible thing. As such I would like to see some changes in Wordpress so that it becomes more easier to use…

1) Redesigning the Admin Area , to use Frames
Using Frames in the admin area will make the work of many people easier specially those on a dial-up connection like me.. And of course I would like to see Shuttle in wordpress as soon as possible..

2) Modifying XML-RPC
This is one urgent need so that I can use my favourite plugins like UTW from my Desktop Publisher.. At Present I use a workaround for UTW by adding all my tags in [tags]a,b[/tags] in post..

3) RSS customization
I Would like to publish the most popular posts on RSS in the main RSS feed which wordpress gives in a differant division alltogether. So I would have about 3 Most Popular posts and 10 Latest posts in the feed. This helps me in drawing more visitors.

4) Quick Edit Mode
This is more or less like the WYSIWYG editor but minus all the extra stuff like categories, tags, trackbacks, custom fields. This would bascially help me in editing a post very quickly.

5) Online Editor
This is more or less like Edit n Place a wordpress plugin. I would like this to be built into wordpress so that it helps in editing a post when viewing the Permalink itself using the magic of AJAX..

6) Easier User Registrations..
I think a user should be allowed to fill up his profile while registering itself and also be able to choose a password himself. I don’t want wordpress to automatically generate a password.

7) Introduce Configurable Widgets
This is a really cool thing according to me.. I think the user should be allowed to configure the widget, its apperance etc to his taste and not depending completely on the theme.

Better Admin Navigation
At Present it takes atleast 3 clicks to reach the panel of your choice. I think it should’nt be like this. Basically I would like a menu system wherein you can the panel of your choice with a single click..

9) Introduce Live Search and Commenting in the Core
This would help a great deal. Designers need not incorporate the code into their themes. All they need to do is style the elements. Another thing to do would be to give the user a choice to choose to choose between Livesearch and Vanilla search and also to choose between Live commenting and normal commenting in the admin panel..

10) Code Optimization
Oflate I see that wordpress becomes slower and slower with every new release. Wordpress has lost its speed and charm that it used to have in the 1.5x Editions. I would like see the code being optimized heavely so that regains that speed and charm.

11) Spread the Word
Well this is more of a general concern. I would like to see Wordpress launch a massive campaign like firefox does and make the people aware of the advantages of using wordpress as their publishing medium..

Well this is not an exhaustive list of everything I would like to see in wordpress but a small percentage of it. I belive that these implementations into Wordpress would do a great deal to the blogging community..
